This I Believe: 1

Similar to the NPR broadcasts only in title...

In this, a first in a series of posts, I am going to write about something that I believe to be true. It may be my mother told me that it was true; it may be that I read it on the Internet; it may be something that I saw with my own eyes, but somehow, somewhere, I've picked it up along the way. Dispute or support the reality, likelihood, or feasibility of it in your comments.

And No Fair researching the matter before you come to the table. That just wouldn't be as much fun.
I'm a librarian. I can find information on anything and twice, but I'd like to hear about your gut instinct.

This I believe:

I believe that a boy I grew up with had a dot of blue permanent marker on his chin for quite some time. Longer than a year...

I guess my first question would be was it the same dot of blue permanent marker the whole time. Could he have kept reapplying it?

I believe he could have had some kind of mark on him but I don't know if I can believe it was the permanent marker applied just once. I have to think it would have come off as dead skin cells after a long period of time.

But I'm open to the fact that it's true.

Maybe it wasn't permanent marker but ink that he stabbed into his chin like a tattoo???

My son, Jacob, has a permanent piece of lead pencil stuck between his toes. I guess it never got removed. It had a blueish color under the skin.
So maybe the boy stabbed himself in the chin with a lead pencil, most likely a number 2.
I don't believe that I am writing this when Amanda and I could just discuss this at home, but I wanted everyone to know my 2 cents.

I like Frank's theory. It reminded me that my brother has a similar thing. A piece of pencil lead under the skin by his knee. And it does have a blue tinge to it.

I think he wore a bicycle or similar helmet that had a chin strap. A parent had written his name on the inside of his chin strap in blue permanent marker, not realizing that it would leave a mark on his chin each day as he sweat while riding his bike to school.

I'm concerned about all these people walking around with lead embedded in them. I'm going with Katie P's theory. I like that one better.
